  • "Reared by a father who was Filipino and a mother who was Hungarian-Irish, Lampa grew up not really knowing about racism either.
"I didn't know what it was since I live in a mixed family and have friends of color. People talk about racism but I never really saw it as a problem," she said.
She instead grew up versed in knowing about the traditional Filipino meal on Lo Mein at Thanksgiving. And though she may have been naive to names of other Christian artists, it saved her from developing a certain "attitude" about Christian music."

Bruno Mars From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
" Peter Gene Hernandez (born October 8, 1985), better known by his stage name Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians, Mars began making music at a young age. After performing in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his childhood, he decided to pursue a musical career and moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school. Mars began producing songs for other artists, joining production team The Smeezingtons.
....After an unsuccessful stint with Motown Records, Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009. He became recognized as a solo artist after lending his vocals and co-writing the hooks for the songs "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B, and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He also co-wrote the hits "Right Round" by Flo Rida featuring Kesha, "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan. ...

    Life and career
    1985–2008: Early life and beginnings
"Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez and raised in the Waikiki neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii, by parents Bernadette "Bernie" and Pete Hernandez, of Filipino and Puerto Rican descent.[4][5][6][7] His mother emigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines as a child and his father moved to the island from Brooklyn, New York.[8] Mars' parents met while performing in a show, where his mother was a hula dancer and his father played percussion.[8] At the age of two, he was nicknamed "Bruno" by his father, because of his resemblance to chubby professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino.[9] Mars was one of six children and came from a musical family who exposed him to a diverse mix of reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B.[10][11] From a young age, he was impersonating and performing songs by artists such as Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Isley Brothers, and The Temptations.[6] At age four, Mars began performing five days a week with his family's band, The Love Notes, in which he became known on the island for his impersonation of Presley...
  • Bruno Mars' 'SNL' Double Duty: His Top Three Moments As host and musical guest, the doo-wop singer pulled in the show's highest ratings this season. By Carly Wolkoff Oct 22 2012 6:19 PM EDT 11,957 mtv.com

  • "Bruno Mars proved that he is quite the Renaissance man on Saturday night, bringing his doo-wop finesse and comedy prowess to the notoriously critical "Saturday Night Live" stage as both host and musical talent. And viewers were clearly in agreement — the episode holds the highest ratings for the show's 38th season. To celebrate, we've compiled our top three moments from Bruno Mars' stint on "SNL." Monologue The "SNL" monologue is crucial in setting the tone for the evening, and Bruno Mars killed it. Using his signature crooning vocal style, Bruno reveals his hosting trepidation, "Why am I here? I don't understand. I've never done a show like this. No, I'm not a comedian. Will I someday regret this? Is it a terrible mistake? Can I put aside my fears? Can I be like Timberlake?" Mars pokes fun at his crazy hair and admits before breaking it down, " 'Cause I've been on giant stages all around the world, but underneath this trendy suit hides a scared Filipino."

    Bruno Mars as Pandora Intern
Mars plays Devin, an unassuming intern at Pandora Internet Radio who takes over the Green Day, Aerosmith, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson radio stations when the power goes out at headquarters. Mars' imitation of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is hilariously dead-on.
    "Young Girls"
Backed by strings and rocking Ray-Ban Clubmasters, Mars debuts "Young Girls." The song comes from his upcoming album, Unorthodox Jukebox, for which he released the artwork Monday (October 22). He cries, "All you young, wild girls make a mess of me. Yeah, you young, wild girls, you'll be the death of me."

  • Peace envoy to donate books for Bangsamoro children By Jose Rodel Clapano (The Philippine Star) Updated October 13, 2012 12:00 AMComments (1) philstar.com

  • " MANILA, Philippines - Apl.de.ap of the world famous band Black Eyed Peas yesterday pledged to donate books to school children in Bangsamoro areas and conduct school-feeding programs in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
Apl.de.ap, as peace ambassador, said he learned about the historic framework agreement of the Philippine government with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on CNN.
As peace ambassador, the Fil-Am singer – whose real name is Allan Pineda – received a briefing on the framework agreement over Skype from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP). “Definitely, I want to be involved. This is great news!” he said.
He established the Apl Foundation which has school-building projects in the Philippines and Asia. It has an ongoing partnership with the Ninoy and Cory Foundation and the MyLibrary program of Ayala Foundation/Philippine Development Foundation and the 57-75 Movement for educational reform. Apl.de.ap said the projects that he would like to spearhead in Mindanao include school-feeding programs and book donations.
The singer, who used to ride a jeepney to go to his school in Pampanga, was often quoted as saying that “education is the only long-term ticket to a better life."

Apl.de.Ap - We Can Be Anything [OFFICIAL VIDEO] with Lyrics

" WeCanBeAnything is an education advocacy campaign, born of a partnership between the Apl.de.Ap Foundation (AdAF) and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF).
The campaign was conceived after apl.de.ap (a.k.a. Allan Pineda), the Filipino-American member of the world-famous Black Eyed Peas, expressed his desire to help improve the education situation in the Philippines.
From his own experience, he knew that, for many Filipinos mired in poverty or other difficult circumstances, education is the only long-term ticket to a better life. Unfortunately, millions among the youth are deprived of this ticket to opportunity or drop out of school for a variety of reasons. One basic obstacle is the severe shortage of public school classrooms; the Department of Education (DepEd) estimates the backlog at 66,800 classrooms as of schoolyear 2010-2011, Another factor is the barren environment for learning in many parts of the country due to scarce resources with which to set up libraries and similar facilities.
Several organizations have launched programs to address these and many other problems besetting the Philippine educational system. Through his foundation, apl.de.ap wants to be able to help some of these programs.
On a personal level, he simply wants to tell young Filipinos that he was able to go so far in life because he got an education. To deliver this message, he has composed the song, "We Can Be Anything", around which a campaign could be built.
To give apl.de.ap a platform for his advocacy, NCAF appointed him the special ambassador for education of the iamninoy-iamcory Movement in February 2011.
Through the WeCanBeAnything campaign, apl.de.ap lends his celebrity, music and personal network to rally massive support for key education initiatives, while reinforcing the broader message on the importance of education.
Proceeds from the campaign will benefit the Bayanihang Pampaaralan initiative of 57-75 movement for educational reform and the MyLibrary program of Ayala Foundation/ Philippine Development Foundation.
The advocacy campaign is being made possible by the generous support of enlightened sponsors like PLDT Smart Foundation, Meralco Foundation, Philippine Airlines and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation."

The Pussycat Dolls From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"are an American pop girl group and dance ensemble, founded in Los Angeles by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a burlesque troupe. After attracting national attention, Antin negotiated a record deal with Interscope Records in 2003 turning the group into a music franchise, which developed a global image and commercial brand overseen by Antin, Interscope and various partners. The first recording group (Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Kimberly Wyatt and Carmit Bachar) produced two albums and numerous singles between 2004 and 2009 including the world-wide hits "Don't Cha", "Stickwitu", "Beep", "Buttons", "When I Grow Up", "I Hate This Part", and "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)". "Stickwitu" earned a 2005 Grammy Award nomination, and the Dolls brand diversified into merchandise, reality television programs, a Las Vegas act, product endorsements, spin-off recording groups (Girlicious, Paradiso Girls) and other ventures. By early 2010, the first Dolls recording group had disbanded. In 2009, Billboard ranked the Pussycat Dolls as the 80th most successful musical act of the 2000s.[1] As of 2011, the group sold 15 million albums and 37 million singles worldwide making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time with a total of 52 million records.[2] In 2012, Antin announced a new line-up of the "sexy brand" would debut in February in a Go Daddy advertisement at the Super Bowl.[3] A video posted in February 2012 showed members Lauren Bennett, Paula van Oppen, Vanessa Curry, Chrystina Sayers, and Erica Jenkins. In July 2012 it was announced that the 'new' line-up would be Lauren Bennett, Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton, Amanda Branche, and Natalie Mejia.[4]. In August 2012 publicity photos showed the 'new' line-up including Simone Battle replacing Branche.[5] Now natalie mejia has departed the group and has been replaced by Emmalyn Estrada. ...

  • Youths in Philippines protest against Lady Gaga, By ASSOCIATED PRESS - Associated Press Saturday, May 19, 2012 washingtontimes.com

  • "MANILA, PHILIPPINES (AP) - Christian young people in the Philippines protested Saturday against upcoming concerts by Lady Gaga despite organizers’ assurances that her performances would not threaten morality.
About 200 Christian youths marched in Manila for a second straight day, holding placards urging the pop singer to “respect our faith, stop the blasphemy.”
The Biblemode Youth Philippines members plan to hold a vigil starting Sunday near the concert venue. They said they are offended by Lady Gaga’s music, particularly her song “Judas,” which they said mocks Jesus Christ.
Authorities in the conservative, majority Roman Catholic country approved the concerts, set for Monday and Tuesday, but said they won’t allow nudity or lewd acts.
Sold-out crowds and angry protests have followed Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” Asian tour.
Fans younger than 18 were banned from concerts in South Korea over complaints her lyrics and costumes were too provocative, and she was denied a concert permit in Indonesia by police under pressure from Islamic hard-liners.
Riot police stopped Saturday’s marchers about a kilometer (half a mile) away from the concert venue. Phalanxes of security guards stood on alert in front of the arena.
“She declared a distorted view toward Jesus Christ and for us Biblical Christians it is offensive,” said Ruben Abante, a protest leader. “Her music and everything about her is different from what our values are.”
Organizers from Ovation Productions said they respect the beliefs of critics but promised that the performances “will not pose a threat to their sense of morality and conduct.”
Under Philippine law, people who offend race or religion can be sentenced to up to six years in prison, although no one has been convicted recently. ...
